It only took 14 years to get him to try....

Hello my friends!  Can you believe it is Labor Day weekend 2018?!?  This summer really flew by and can already feel the temperatures changing just a bit, in the arrival of Fall.  Last weekend we got some much needed rain, which meant it was the perfect day to play in my craft room.

When the new annual catalog came out, there was a new package of paper that caught my eye, but honestly, it sat on my table for quite some time, till last weekend.  This paper is printed vellum.  Vellum is a great way to add some subtleness to a project, without going overboard.  Well Stampin Up! outdid themselves and them printing on it, allowed us to bring out our missing 'inner child'.  :)  You can color on this with either Stampin Blends, or our tried and true markers!  Here are some images of this 6 x 6 paper:

Vellum

What you can do is color on the side where you don't see the glossy black outline.  When you do, you see something magical!

Vellum coloring

Remember, I am not a photographer but this paper is beyond gorgeous!!  The top was done with regular markers, the bottome was done with Stampin Blends.  I prefer using the Blends because it dries really fast.  If you use markers, you need patience.

So now back to last weekend.  While it rained, I colored - it was so fun!  I just cut out smaller images from the 6 x 6 paper and let the colors talk.  In comes my handsome husband Michael, wanting to know why it was so quiet in my room.  I explained what I was doing, and asked if he colored as a kid. He replied, "well of course I did, didn't everyone?"  Well said husband.  :)  So I asked if he wanted to give it a try.  I put out all the Blends and said it was his paper and he could do what he liked:

To my surprise, he didn't grab Husker Red aka Real Red, but did get straight to coloring.  (he did find the Red later)  LOL  As you color, you can hold it up to the light to check your work as you go.  Think of this as stain glass on paper!  Well I made him finish it all the way to the end because it was perfect!

And here are those final projects!

Coloring vellum 2

When we finished - I was smitten with this paper!!  This card was extremely easy to put together because it needed just a simple white background.  What do you think?  When was the last time you stopped, and brought out that inner child who just wants color???  :)

Until next time!

Now wasn't that easy!

Hello my friends!

Can you believe school is starting again? Crazy!  I love seeing all the photos of 'the first day of school' from friends and family.  I also love that Fall is right around the corner which is my MOST favorite time of the year!!!

Today I wanted to show you a quick and easy card, that can also be a gift card holder!  This card is so easy to put together and the different occasion ideas are endless.  Here is a preview:

Memories finished

As you can see, I conveniently inserted a gift card in mine.  How cute is that!?!?!  I used the Big Plans Memories and More Card Pack that come with an assortment of 5o cards (3x4 inches and 4x6 inches) as well as stickers and specialty cards that are drop-dead gorgeous!  Here are measurements of what is needed:

Memories and more card

I used Blushing Bride in the example above but be brave, try a new color combo.  Here are a few more ideas:

Memories and more giftcard

The above sample was using the Best Route Memories and More Card pack which I thought would be great for those young adults headed off to college this month.  The verses in the set are so inspiring and would be great to brighten someone's day.  And if that was not enough, how about the upcoming Christmas holidays?!?!

Memories and more holiday

These my friends will be available on September 5th!  The stickers in this kit, (look at the little elf, candy cane, circle sticker, tree and showflakes) are stinkin cute and full of glitter!  These are quick and sure to be a hit with anyone receiving them!  I actually did a Facebook Live video when I created my first sample so if you would like to see, here is that video:

Thanks for stopping by and letting me share what I love!  If you have any questions, please let me know and as always..keep stampin!  :)

You know you want these markers!

Hello my friends - let's talk color!

A few months ago, we were introduced to an amazing new product called Blends.  These are alcohol base markers and let me tell you, these will change the way you color!

Blends

If you were around a couple of years ago, you will remember we had markers like these before, but I am here to say, SU listened and improved the quality beyond my expectations!  I find that I can't put them down, when I start playing!  Here are some projects I have created with them:

20171016_003017550_iOS

20171016_003025389_iOS

20171102_024710570_iOS

They are so easy to use and so easy to "blend".  (clever name right?!?!)  What I love most is how you can create such texture to your coloring with little effort.  I would recommend purchasing them in a color set. (you will receive a dark and a light shade, in the color of your choice)  Here is a link to the catalog with all the information you need to get going with our new Blends.  I would recommend using our beautiful Memento Ink pad in Tuxedo Black to stamp your image, then you can start to color any way you like.  I like to start with the darker color first, then I blend the lighter color right over the top to be sure to even out any harsh lines in my coloring.  My preferred cardstock is the Shimmery White so I get a little added sparkle for good measure.

Stampin Up has created some great how to videos to get us going in the right direction.  Here are those links:

I cannot say enough about these markers!  If you have any questions, or would like to give them a try, ask me today!  We have been using these in my monthly card class and have so much fun!  And I have to ask, who doesn't want to feel like a true artist?  :)  Until next time!

Just when you need a little something

Hello my stampin friends!

I have been in my room playing this week and so excited to show you some of the projects I have been working on!  So have you seen the mini pizza boxes in the Holiday Catalog?  No?  Let me show you:

144645_mini_pizza_boxes

Plain, simple but let me tell you....so many options for these little cuties!!  Here is a great sample that SU has created for your upcoming holiday giving:

Holiday17_p10b

Isn't it just cute?!?!  I love the detail of the doily and just a little bit of sparkle from the sequin!  These boxes are under a $1 a piece (8 boxes for $6) and can be used for so many occasions.  Here is a view of the VIP project from my classes in September which was full of coffee candies or caramel apple candies:

20170916_172008549_iOS

With a little pretty paper, some coordinating ribbon and a greeting, you are good to go!  Now when I first saw these boxes, something in my head kept thinking "How about a thinking of you box or get well soon box" so the search began for some supplies to fit in the box.  (The boxes are 3 1/2" x 3 1/2" so use the space wisely) I was able to find a package of tissues the perfect size and the rest just kind of came together:

Boxes

The perfect package to give when someone is under the weather!  I know I am going to take this opportunity to make a few up so I am prepared the next time I need a little something for that special friend.  I also love hot tea this time of year which led to the next project I want to share with you:

20171018_025731549_iOS-ConvertImage

This could be a gift for one, or a gift for 2!!  (clever right?)  LOL  This idea came to me one morning while getting ready to work, so I hurried and sketched the picture that was in my head of the box, then off to the day job!  The cookies are so yummy and come in the perfect little package made just for these boxes!

So are you inspired?  Feeling creative?  I would love to see what you can do with these simple white boxes.  Try spritzing or wiping color directly on the matte finish for a stepped up look...the skies the limit!  (Did I tell you the inside of the box is food safe?!?!)  They are awesome!!!

Thanks for stopping by - until next time!

Making a mess can be fun for adults too!

Hello my friends!  Many, many years ago, I learned a technique that still  amazes me to this day!  A little bit of shaving cream, ink and paper, and the sky is the limit for fun!

20170823_023845931_iOS

So there is a love/hate to this technique.  (there had to be a catch, right?)  LOL  So it can be messy - that one is obvious as you can see from the photo above.  You may get ink on your hands but let me tell you....IT'S SO MUCH FUN!!!  I love that each time I drop my paper in this plate of squishy goo, I never know what it will look like until I scrape the mess off my cardstock.  Each piece is literally a one of a kind creation and you can change up the colors to match any kind of event.  (School colors, baby showers, seasonal etc)

For this session, I went for some Fall colors since it is right around the corner.  Below are some of the samples I used with the following re-inker colors:

  • Lemon Lime Twist
  • Cajun Craze
  • Tempting Turquoise

  20170824_031620584_iOS
As you can see from the photo, even using the same colors will look different on each sheet of cardstock because of the fluid movement of color!  I typically let it dry - that does not take long, then start to look for some coordinating cardstock for a base.  Once I have that all picked, I decide how to showcase that beautiful work of art!  For this I knew I wanted to try to some copper paper and also had the new champagne paper too! (IT'S SO PRETTY!!!)   I was not sure how it was going to come together so I laid it all out so I could plan.  I also wanted to prove that my room, or my table are rarely clean at any given time.  For some reason, I like to work with lots on my table for inspiration.  (We as crafters never do that right?!?!?)  Here is what the finished project looked like:

Leaves together

The single leaf card is using the new champagne foil paper that you can purchase on September 1st!  It is so beautiful, to me, it looks like silver with a pink undertone.  I also mixed in more texture with the Foil Frenzy Specialty DSP and Fabulous Foil Designer Acetate.  I was so happy how things came together on these two cards!  Great news...the card on the right will be a class offering in September too! (YAY!!)

I hope you enjoyed the project - stay tuned because I am doing a video on this one.  :)

Until next time!

The best therapy ever!

Hello my friends!  It has been awhile since I have shared a 'how to video', so I thought sharing one of my favorite techniques would be the best time to do another!

Have you ever tried water coloring?  If you are a serious artist, we know you can do water coloring painting which I can tell you, I am not.  But what I want to show you is a way to achieve that beautiful water color look, without being that seriously focused, painter.  There are two tools I used to achieve this look which are blender pens and aqua painters.  Each have a specific duty for me, so let me break that down:

Blender Pens

These pens come 3 to a pack when purchased thru me.  I love these for precise coloring, and when I don't want to go for that serious water color look.  You can use blender pens with your reinkers, ink pads, markers and pencils.  Just keep in mind, you will get precision with these, verses the Aqua Painters.  My go to paper with blender pens will be Stampin Up! Ultra Thick Whisper White cards stock or White Shimmer Paper.  I like to use these with my water color pencils.

Aqua Painters

These painters come two to a pack when purchased thru me.  They can be filled with water straight from the tap, and last a really long time!  I only use these painters on water color paper and boy are they fun!  Here is a video that walks you thru using aqua painters:

I typically don't like to make videos that are longer than 10 - 15 minutes but I wanted to share some important features for the new At Home With You Bundle that was new to the Stampin Up! 2017-2018 catalog.  I LOVE this bundle - here are snapshots of some of the projects I have completed with it:

  At home with you

Front door

Frontdoor open

Cute right?  This set is so versatile and a must for water coloring.  I know myself, I want to have many occasions covered when investing in a bundle set like this and I have to tell you, this one was first on my list!  If you have any questions, please let me know and be sure to check out my class in September to try your hand at water coloring, you won't regret it!

Happy Stampin!

Don't overlook that odd looking stamp set...

So I know it's been awhile...a long while.  :)  Since we last met, WE HAVE A BRAND NEW ANNUAL CATALOG!!!  If you have not seen it, you need to let me know so I can get to you, your very own copy!

When I got to see this catalog for the first time, I ALWAYS check for my beloved Lovely As a Tree stamp set.  Oh I just love this set, have you seen it?  If not, please let me show you:

Lovely as a Tree

Lovely As a Tree #128655 (wood mount) #127793 (clear mount)

I can't imagine if I will ever get tired of this set - it is so beautiful and a must for every good stamper!

Ok so back to the new catalog!  There is one set I need to call out because when you see it, well it's just not pretty.  LOL  Let me show you:You move me

You Move Me #144002 photopolymer

When I saw this, I thought for sure Stampin Up! fell off their rockers.  I mean what's with the odd looking butterfly and humming bird?!?!  Well let me tell you - this set WITH their matching framelits are AWESOME!!  This set is designed to be an action card meaning when you pull the imagine behind the grid framelit, the butterfly and humming bird will appear to be flying off the page!  Yes, it is so cool and delights all ages!!

This was new to me so I went ahead and created a video of the card in action, as well as some tips to make the card!  Here is a link to that video:

Here is a better picture of just the cards:

You move me

These are so fun to make and love how they coordinate with the new Petal Garden Designer Series Paper pack.  What I love best about this pack is the size - it is 6 in. x 6 in. so an excellent size to work with!  I love how the images seem to be flying out of the flowers, what do you think?

I hope you love it just as much as I do and I am already playing with the framelits to see if I can make other stamp set appear to 'come to life'.  Oh the possibilities!  Let me know if you have any questions, would love to hear from you!

Until next time!

Packaging makes all the difference!

Hello my stampin friends!  As promised, I have more to share with you!!  Have you ever received a gift that made you smile before you even knew what was inside?  I LOVE packaging - paper, ribbon embellishments - LOVE IT ALL!!!!  :) I have been busy creating in my room and thought you would like to see what I have been up to.

Have you seen the envelope punch board?  No?  Let me show you:

Punch board

What I love about this board...you can make 66 different sized envelopes out of a piece of paper!  Yes, sixty-six!!  I needed some clever packaging to give a set of framelits.  Now a bag is great but the framelits themselves are so flat, it just seemed odd to just put them in a bag so I grabbed my envelope board and went to work.  The board itself has easy measurements to follow.  The first action is to determine how big of an envelope you need.  I needed a 6 x 7 envelope so the board is telling me, I need to start with a 10 1/4" x  10 1/4" sheet of cardstock or paper.  Here is a close up of the board measurements:

  20161209_020431910_iOS
The directions are right on the board so no worries about losing them and this board will give you an envelope in minutes!  Here is what mine looks like before assembling:

20161209_015512473_iOS

For this project, I wanted to create a pocket so I cut off one side of the envelope which you can see I did to the left.  Next, I bring the sides together, then bring up the bottom.  Here is what that looks like when assembled:

20161209_015640693_iOS

Now the pattern for this one is a little wild and I wanted to decorate a bit on the front, so I added a piece of coordinating card stock to give me a surface to work with:

20161209_020355057_iOS

Now that is something we can work with right?  So the next part is the best part.....decorating!!  Let's take a look at what I came up with:

Envelope pocket

So one I put thru the Big Shot to add some texture , and the other was unaltered cardstock in Real Red.  I love adding a tag or a cute piece of punch art...SO EASY!!!!!  I also think this would make a great addition to your favorite stampers stash of tools.  :)  Stay tuned this week to see a cute cocoa package and a gift bag of multiple sizes too!  I can't wait to show you!!  Thanks for stopping by!
